Every drop counts: Hosepipe ban now in force in our area

SDR tenants, staff and friends are reminded that South West Water (SWW) has extended its hosepipe ban to include our area.

From today, you should no longer use your hosepipe for activities like watering the garden and cleaning the car. For full details about the hosepipe ban and FAQs, please visit: South West Water

Water levels in Roadford Reservoir, the strategic reservoir for our area, are 25.5% lower than this time last year.

SWW say they have done their best to avoid this, but need to extend the current hosepipe ban to include most parts of Devon and Cornwall to help preserve current reservoir levels and so they can continue to meet demand throughout the summer.

They will continue to monitor reservoir levels in the region in the hope that above average rainfall and reduced demand may help levels recover, so that the hosepipe ban can be lifted.

Exceptions

There are exceptions for those that need them. Blue Badge holders, customers on SWW’s Priority Services Register, as well as customers on the WaterSure tariff for medical reasons, are automatically exempt from this hosepipe ban.

Enforcement

SWW are asking everyone to comply with the restrictions so there is enough water for everyone. They say they trust customers to do the right thing for the region and would like to thank those who have already voluntarily cut back on water usage. They will investigate any reported breach, but are aware that some customers are exempt, so reports will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
